Give Peas A Chance
It’s been pretty hectic recently. We are renovating our new house, which has proved to be a bigger job than either me or my wife thought. To give you an idea, it’s 160 years old, and we are basically stripping it back to brick room-by-room, putting in new joists and then plastering, and decorating.
Hard, hard work and as we have uncovered a lot more problems than we thought, the budget has taken a hit. That means yours truly has had to do a lot more than he thought he would.
So I am up to my neck in DIY, plus co-ordinating plumbers, plasterers, electricians and decorators.
Then there’s my wife’s business. I am running a project with her new business manager to re-vamp their website and refocus their online marketing strategy. Big job involving me, the new business manager, the personnel manager and a marketing intern. That is sapping a lot of time as well.
Then there is my own online business. I want to get it back to where it was. Two years ago I sold pretty much everything and took two years off to spend time with my new baby. Now he is going to nursery three days a week, so I can try to spend time getting a new business model off the ground. It is a grand strategy, not just involving this site as an authority destination for helping people with all aspects of marketing their online businesses “in the real world”.
Add to that a couple of secret projects, managing the stuff I didn’t sell off , plus trying a new strategy that should make quick, easy cash from fiverr and other similar “gig” service sites – and you can see why time is tight!
You can make money online…but don’t forget to have a life!
Yesterday I was given a sharp reminder of what is important. I was struggling with a load of stuff and was glued to the computer. I didn’t mean to be, my toddler was in the house and I was looking after him that day. But you know how it is, an email pops-up in your Blackberry and before you know it you are suddenly jumping through hoops online trying to get something “quick” done with a strategy I was testing.
I suddenly became aware of a burning smell and then the smoke alarm went off.
Rushing into the kitchen I found a smouldering pan of burnt peas on the hob. I had been making my little boys lunch and gotten so engrossed in my online business that I forget about them.
So I had to start again and he had to wait for his food.
It was a sharp reminder that you MUST, must, must, must balance things out. Strive, struggle and succeed in online marketing, but make sure that you are not blind to the things that are really important to you.
Give peas a chance!
